Chevy s10 v8 8.5 Rear Axle Update

Here is how it all started... 3:73 "one-wheel-wonder" - For some reason I just keep finding new things to add as the project goes on. Almost seems like I don't want to finish it for some reason. Well, we always look at making our vehicles a bit faster... well, I thought it might make sense to also make it stop bit better. If there's one thing good about the "Clash-for-clunkers" program... is that you can find some pretty nice upgrades from late model vehicles at a decent price. I was able to find a 8.5 rear with a 3:42 gear (I'm hoping the lower gear and my over-drive will give me a bit better mileage) to replace the non posi unit. Pretty easy swap.. below are a few pics.

Here is the 7.5 out of the truck. Just remove the brake lines, rear u-bolts, drive shaft and parking brakes and you are pretty much good to go.

Here is what it looked like once it was removed. I also had to unbolt the sway-bar from the rear to drop the rear-end. Due to the exhaust, I was not able to mount the small shock that helps with wheel hoop.
Here it is waiting to go in...

Looks pretty good in there. I did have to use 1/2 axle set back plates to make the drive shaft fit.
I bought the plates from www.s10v8.com and they worked great.

Resurfaced the rotors - New pads... should be good to go.

I have to say that this upgrade will be well-worth-it in the long run. I was able to do everything for less than 200 bucks. Amazing what you can find at your local junkyards these days....
